Job Description
• Attending or holding meetings with account executives, at which time the client's requirements and core messages are discussed.

Education and Training

Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) is a national membership network of organization with over 1000 Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs), Community Based Organization (CBOs), Faith Based Organization (FBOs), Private Sector, Research and Learning Institutions responding to HIV & AIDS and TB in Kenya.

Role:

The communication and documentation officer will support HIV and TB advocacy, promoting access to practical up-to-date information through documentation and dissemination of strategic information

Major duties and responsibilities:
• Organize press conferences, development of media briefs/ press releases as needed in regard to TB, HIV & AIDS
• Liaise with media/ journalist, through follow up calls, response to journalists’ requests, relationship building with journalists, facilitating media interviews
• Monitor media coverage of all HIV/AIDS/TB activities and efforts, weekly e-documentation of all print and broadcast media

Under the overall supervision of the Executive Director and in close and direct technical supervision by the Knowledge and Information Manager (KIM), the Information Officer will be responsible in managing and exploiting internally produced information while making such information easily accessible depending on needs of the organization and ACT members.

The Incumbent’s specific key duties will be:
• Development, data entry and editorial of raw electronic data for publication and dissemination using, i.e. ACT online database system and ACT content management system;
• Editorial production of the ACT quarterly newsletter, information and communication materials for further graphical design and publication by ACT Publications unit.
• Sharing important news, events, announcements and other matters related to Conservation Agriculture with ACT members, partners and stakeholders

Academic qualifications:
• University degree or its equivalent from a recognized university preferably in the fields of communication, journalism or other related field of study
• Extensive professional experience in advocacy, information and communication and related field.

Work experience:
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in advocacy, communications, public/private information, journalism will be desirable.

Other relevant skills:
• State-of-the art knowledge and strong background in the field of information, communications and advocacy.
• Ability to address a range of issues related to information requirements, including taking a lead on administering of different information systems
• Fully proficient computer skills and knowledge of relevant information software and related information applications (Microsoft Office Suite,)

Language requirement:
• Proficiency in English and Kiswahili is a requirement for the post advertised, fluency in oral and excellent drafting skills in both languages is a requirement.

Qualifications:

The international humanitarian organization Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) is seeking for its Regional Information Office a: Media and Communications Officer for Somalia – Based in Nairobi, Kenya

The Media and Communications Officers supports the work of the Regional Information Office in building and maintaining strong relationships with regional media in order to raise awareness of MSF’s work in East Africa and ensure that any messages MSF wants to convey are accurately reported on.

The Media and Communications Officer will also assist with the production of both internal and external communication materials.

The position is a national staff position and reports directly to the Regional Information Officer (RIO).

Responsibilities
• Media Relations: works with the RIO to help build and maintain strong relationships with Somali and other important regional media, provides advice and support to colleagues, proposes activities and events and supports RIO in organization of press conferences/functions.
• Media Monitoring and Mapping: Monitors Somali and regional media with an eye to humanitarian stories and issues effecting NGOs. Together with RIO highlights important issues or trends and advises on appropriate action.
• Content Production: Together with the RIO and other MSF offices, works on the development and content of both internal and external communication materials.
• Information Management: Ensures the dissemination and archiving of communications materials, keeps contact lists up to date.
• Website Management: In conjunction with operational centres and Regional Information Officer helps oversee the Somali language website, including inputting content and managing the adwords campaign.

Requirements
• A university degree in communications, journalism, public relations, social sciences or other related field.
• A minimum of two year’s professional experience working in a top level media environment or as senior press/media relations officer for an international NGO.
• Excellent communication (spoken, written and presentational) skills in English and Somali. Other languages (French, Arabic) desirable
• Demonstrable knowledge of the Somali and regional media. Proven ability to cultivate contacts and establish a good network
• An excellent understanding of humanitarian and health issues in the East and Horn of Africa.
• Knowledge and hands on experience producing written work for a variety of audiences. Experience in new media i.e. video production an asset.
• IT and multimedia skills- word, outlook and excel essential. Experience with Google adwords and online marketing an asset.
• The ability to identify communication needs and advise colleagues on communications strategies.
