AFIDEP, which has its Head office in Nairobi, is seeking highly qualified and self-motivated individuals to fill the following positions.

Policy and Knowledge Translation Scientist

Main Duties:
• Translate research evidence into concise policy and program recommendations and documents;
• conduct policy and program environment analyses;
• pro-actively promote application of research findings in decision-making processes;
• strengthen national, regional and international partnerships;
• fundraise; and publish policy-oriented research in journals.

Key Requirements:
• PhD in social sciences or public health;
• minimum of 2 years postdoctoral experience;

• proposal writing and fundraising experience;
• excellent writing and communication skills.

Policy and Knowledge Translation Officer

Main Duties:
• Data analysis and translation of research evidence into concise policy and program recommendations and documents, including policy briefs;
• manage knowledge translation and advocacy programs;
• support policy and program environment analyses;
• facilitate and strengthen national, regional and international partnerships for knowledge transfer.

Key Requirements:
• Masters degree in statistics, economics or epidemiology;
• minimum of 2 years of relevant experience;
• evidence of scientific publications;
• quantitative and qualitative analytical skills;
• ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders;
• experience in developing policy briefs and web-based advocacy materials; and
• excellent writing and communication skills.

• Liaising with other Intergrowth 21 project staff to arrange data collection activities.
• Conducting focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with pregnant women receiving antenatal care at KDH
• Conducting observations of ANC activities at Kilifi District Hospital, including observations of ultrasound counseling and scanning.
• Analysing the collected data
• Working with other Intergrowth 21 project staff to write up and disseminate the findings.

Skills and Competence:

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Nursing Science or health related subject (upper second or first)
Experience:

Post holder will have:
• Experience in in-depth interviews and focus group discussions
• Good interpersonal communication skills and great personal integrity

Key Responsibilities:

The post holder will:
• In close collaboration with Centre IT specialists and senior laboratory management, develop and implement a strategic plan to upgrade the Centre's existing Biological Specimen Archive processes using LABCOLLECTOR LIMS software.
• Develop well defined procedures to log new samples and link data, and to manage retrieval and re-entry processes.
• Plan and coordinate all new study/project sample storage requests in close liaison with researchers.
• Produce maintenance plans for the Biobank with appropriate auditable Quality Systems incorporated that comply with international regulatory standards.
• Future proofing - ensure long-term scalability to a larger network of studies and users
• Produce clear and complete documentation of all procedures and processes.
• Plan and perform user inductions and regular update trainings.
• Incorporate appropriate biological and data security measures and access policies
• Ensure all plans and procedures are incorporated in to a long term Business Continuity Plan
• Advance plan for future physical and software expansions as required
• Roll-out the system to other areas of the Centre, and other sites throughout the E. African region as required

Skills and Competence:

Essential Requirements:
• Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in library and information science, records/archive management or areas related to information management. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be considered.
• At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in modern archive management, record keeping, curation, library, or information management functions.
• Experience in project management including supervision or people management.
• Exceptional organizational, documentation and presentation skills

Basic Function of Position

With the Georg Forster Research Fellowships, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation provides support for excellent postdoctoral and experienced researchers from developing and emerging countries (excluding China and India) to carry out research projects with an academic host in Germany.

Projects of relevance to development are eligible for sponsorship.
