Summary:

The purpose of this position is to explore the expectations and experiences of participants (pregnant women as well as the professionals involved in the provision of antenatal care) in the Intergrowth 21st Kilifi study on the introduction of antenatal ultrasound in Kilifi District Hospital.

The position holder will be expected to carry out detailed extraction of data and present data or information for analysis by others and have responsibility for prioritizing their own work and ensuring the necessary equipment/materials are available.

Reporting Lines:

The post reports to the Principal Investigators Caroline Jones and Sassy Molyneux in SBR and Principal Investigators Bryn Kemp and Jay Berkley in the Clinical Trials Facility (CTF).

Key Responsibilities:
• To provide high quality clinical care for women attending Kilifi District Hospital for antenatal care and delivery.
• Liaising with other Intergrowth 21 project staff to arrange data collection activities.
• Conducting focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with pregnant women receiving antenatal care at KDH
• Conducting observations of ANC activities at Kilifi District Hospital, including observations of ultrasound counseling and scanning.
• Analysing the collected data
• Working with other Intergrowth 21 project staff to write up and disseminate the findings.

Skills and Competence:

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Nursing Science or health related subject (upper second or first)
Experience:

Post holder will have:
• Experience in in-depth interviews and focus group discussions
• Good interpersonal communication skills and great personal integrity
• Ability to work effectively and independently as a team member in a collaborative research environment
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Good organisational and prioritisation skills
• An interest in maternal and child health, specifically antenatal care, would be a great advantage.
