PhD Student Positions in Networked Systems Security at Royal Institute of Technology KTH
KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. KTH has 13344 fulltime students, with 6955 at the Bachelor (first) level, 5545 at the Master (second) level, 1314 students at the doctoral studies (third) level, and 3900 employees.
The School of Electrical Engineering (EE), with twelve departments and three competence centers, holds an internationally prominent position in basic and applied research, and it offers high quality education in five main areas: Electrical Power Engineering, Fusion and Space Plasma Physics, Telecommunications and Networks, Information and Control Systems. The School of EE offers a dynamic, creative, international environment to its approx. 300 employees (34 professors, 40 senior researchers and lecturers, and 160 doctoral students), and it is located on the main KTH campus in central Stockholm, a diverse and multicultural city.
Within EE, the security of networked systems is recognized as an issue of strategic importance, with new related activities recently initiated, in particular the Security group within the Department of Communication Networks (LCN). Our work combines theoretical approaches and experimental work, with results published over the past eight years that have attracted the attention of the research community. We have investigated problems ranging from secure and fault-tolerant communication and secure positioning to designing new security architectures and to enhancing location privacy. Our mission is to create trustworthy networked systems.
Description
We invite applications for PhD research assistantships. We are looking for highly motivated individuals interested in pursuing research and graduate studies on the security of networked systems.
The positions will be with the Security group at LCN, and the successful applicants shall benefit from a network of collaborations in KTH and beyond. The Security group is internationally oriented and offers a stimulating and enjoyable working environment that favors diversity. The emphasis of the envisioned work shall be on design and analysis of secure and privacyenhancing protocols. Candidates with strong experimental/systems or theoretical profiles are encouraged to apply.
A PhD assistantship at KTH can extend to up to five (5) years, with 80% of the time devoted to research and 20% to teaching duties. The salary is set according to the standard agreements for PhD student employment at KTH. The starting dates are planned for the spring term of 2011. Qualifications
Applicants must hold or be about to receive an MSc degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering or a related area. Excellent academic credentials, written and spoken English proficiency, communication and team-work skills, and well-documented computing and communications background are expected.
Expertise in several of the following areas is required: computer security, mobile computing, networking, Internet security, wireless communications, distributed algorithms, programming languages, performance analysis, operating systems, simulation techniques and tools, software engineering, system and network programming. Demonstrated experience on security and privacy engineering will be an asset.

Associate Research Fellow at College of Engineering , Mathematics and Physical Sciences
Overview
The College wishes to recruit an Associate Research Fellow to work on improving the understanding of interactions between hydrology, physical processes and land surface and vegetation feedbacks with a view to constraining predictions of future changes. The post is part of the HYDRA project funded under the NERC Changing Water Cycle programme and is available immediately for a fixed term period of three years.
HYDRA is a collaboration between Exeter Climate Systems at the University of Exeter, climateprediction.net at the University of Oxford, the UK Met Office Hadley Centre and CEH Wallingford. The successful applicant will work closely with Professor Peter Cox, Dr Hugo Lambert and Dr Ben Booth and will be 50% based at the UK Met Office.

The main objective of the project EURASIA 2 is to contribute to the promotion of the European system of higher education world-wide (Bologna Declaration) and to strengthen the existing network of co-operation among universities in Asia and Europe by expanding their experience in student and staff exchanges to the associate institutions, and thus disseminate good practice with regard to organisation of mobility and Bologna implementation (ECTS, DS) in all participating countries.
The specific objectives are the improvement of education and research capabilities of EU and Asian countries in subjects relevant to sustainable environmental and natural resource management (i.e. applied life sciences in the broadest sense of the term) to meet present and future societal challenges by contributing to education for sustainable development, to promote cooperation and solidarity among scientists and scholars in the EU and Asian partner countries; in the area of human resources to contribute to the enhancement of academic and professional staff expertise; to produce and transmit scientific and scholarly knowledge and information on curricula development, on the use of ECTS and DS etc. in the participating countries.

Baylor Nursing School Awarded Healthy Sum For Student Scholarships
Baylor University's Louise Herrington School of Nursing has been selected among the nation's top nursing schools to receive coveted scholarship funds for undergraduate nursing students. The grant, which comes from the Helene Fuld Health Trust, HSBC Bank USA, N.A., Trustee, will disburse $600,000 over three years to establish and maintain an endowed scholarship fund for current and future students enrolled in Baylor's undergraduate nursing program.
"This is extraordinary news," said Baylor President Ken Starr. "Many students who come to Baylor do so to fulfill a calling, and certainly our nursing students are among those answering a great and humble call to serve others in a practical, yet meaningful way."
"In light of these trying economic times, it is essential that we offer a reprieve for deserving students who seek the quality education and preparation, and the caring environment, the nursing school provides," Starr said. "This gift wonderfully embodies the university's utmost priority of expanding endowed scholarship funds, and we are grateful."
The grant is one of the nursing school's largest endowed scholarship gifts on record and arrives in timely fashion as Baylor recently announced The President's Scholarship Initiative, a three-year priority which aims to raise $100 million in endowed scholarship funds for Baylor students.
"We are so delighted to receive this gift from the Helene Fuld Health Trust," said Dr. Judy Lott, dean of Baylor's Louise Herrington School of Nursing. "These scholarships will help the next generation of nursing students receive an education that prepares them to provide outstanding nursing care to a world that desperately needs it."
The nursing school was approached by the Helene Fuld Health Trust and asked to submit an application because of the program's excellent reputation, recently strengthened by recognition including:
• receiving full accreditation with no recommendations by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
• acknowledgement by the Texas Board of Nursing as one of the few programs to achieve an at least an 85 percent graduation rate and an 85 percent licensure pass rate in 2009
• a request from the Board for a description of the school's best practices to share with other nursing programs.
Baylor's Louise Herrington School of Nursing also earned praise from the Board for its 96.14 percent licensure pass rate in 2009 -- an impressive score, ranking well above the 89.49 percent national average for baccalaureate degree programs in that year.
"Our students come to the Louise Herrington School of Nursing to learn, to lead and to serve," Lott said. "This gift from the Helene Fuld Health Trust will enable this to happen."
The Helene Fuld Health Trust
The Helene Fuld Health Trust is the nation's largest private funder devoted exclusively to nursing students and nursing education. The trust was originally established as a foundation in 1935 by Dr. Leonhard Felix Fuld, a New York City physician and civil servant, with his sister, Florentine. They named the foundation in honor of their late mother, Helene Shwab Fuld, to honor her inspiring passion and interest in health issues. In 1961, Dr. Fuld refined the foundation's purpose to focus more narrowly on "the improvement of the health and welfare of student nurses."

Scholarship Description: The Hauser Research Scholars Program is open to non-US junior academics from outside of the United States who wish to spend a full academic year at NYU School of Law working on a major piece of legal scholarship. Preference will be given to candidates who have already secured a position at a university. Candidates must be on “tenure track” at their home university.
All Hauser Research Scholars must complete a significant piece of original, publishable legal scholarship in English during their year in residence at NYU School of Law. Scholars must present an early draft at the Global Fellows Forum. Completed papers will be considered for publication as a Hauser Global Law School Work Paper.
All Hauser Research Scholars are required to be in residence at the Law School for the full academic year (fall and spring semesters). Recipients will be expected to fully participate in the intellectual life of the Law School. They must attend and participate in the Global Fellows Forum, schedule in regular intervals throughout the year, and are encouraged to participate in colloquia, seminars and other such events within their areas of interest. Students from Elon University give scholarships to three students
Sokode-Etoe (V/R), Jan. 10, GNA - Students from Elon University, North Carolina, USA, have given full scholarships to three students from the Sokode Traditional area.
Under the package, two of the students would have their scholarships renewed every year till they complete their tertiary education in Ghana. Professor Brain Digre, also known as Togbe Dake I, leader of a group of students on study tour to Sokode, disclosed this at a durbar held in his honour.
He said the scholarship was to enhance education in the area and encourage pupils and students to excel in their academics. Students from Elon University have for the past ten years been supporting the Sokode community with educational materials and infrastructure.
This year, apart from the scholarship package, they also brought 500 pieces of mosquito nets to be sold at very moderate prices to people in the community and the money ploughed into development activities in the area. They also gave GHc2,200 to the community for the completion of a nursery project initiated by a student from the University. The students also presented footballs, school bags and books to pupil= s and students in the area.
Captain George Nfodjo (Rtd), Member of Parliament for Ho Central who initiated the relationship between the University and the community, commended the visiting American students for their support. He, however, chastised young people in the community for not coming out for communal labour when students from Idaho University also in the USA had volunteered to work on a project in the community. Capt. Nfodjo catalogued his support to the Constituency including the payment of school fees totalling about GHc30,000 last year for brilliant but needy students and provision of building materials to schools and communities.
He said his focus was now on education and economic empowerment of people in the Constituency, especially in cocoa farming and poultry and urged young people to form cooperatives and come for support. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, expressed gratitude to students of Elon University for the support and said government was appreciative of the initiative.
He reiterated government's commitment to education but said it need= ed support from the private sector. Mr Amenowode urged the community to revive its communal spirit. Togbe Fiakoku II, Paramount Chief of Sokode Traditional Area, expressed gratitude to the University of Elon, adding that the community needed a library, an ICT centre and a computer laboratory.

Each year the Society of Petroleum Engineers - SPE - Foundation, through the SPE Section Scholarship Support Program, as well as with individual candidates, awards the Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship to the most outstanding student preparing to attend university to pursue an Undergraduate Degree in Petroleum Engineering. The Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship is supported by the Archie Fund of the Society of Petroleum Engineers - SPE - Foundation.

- All Archie Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in a petroleum engineering class by their third semester.
- The scholarship will be canceled immediately if the student transfers out of petroleum engineering.
- The scholarship will be canceled if the student drops below 14 credit hours during a semester.
- The scholarship ordinarily requires a grade point average of 3.0/4.0 or higher for the current semester and a grade point average of 3.0/4.0 or higher on a cumulative basis.
- Exceptions to certain requirements may be made by the Archie Scholarship Committee in unusual circumstances.

High school seniors within the Jo-Carroll Energy service territory are encouraged to apply for one of five scholarships to be awarded to the sons and daughters of cooperative members in 2011.
"The purpose of the scholarship program is to assist electric cooperative member families in our service area," said Michael Hastings, Jo-Carroll Energy president and CEO. "We and other Illinois electric cooperatives want to make a difference in our communities, and we think lending our youth a hand is one of the best ways to do this."
Applicants must be a current high school senior and a son or daughter of a Jo-Carroll Energy cooperative member who is receiving services from the cooperative at the time the application is submitted. Two scholarships will be awarded in both Jo Daviess and Carroll counties and one scholarship in Whiteside County.
Scholarships may be used for educational costs at any two- or four-year accredited college or university, including vocational/technical schools and lineman's school.
Scholarship winners must begin undergraduate studies within one year of being notified that they have won. Scholarship winners are expected to be full time students (at least 12 hours). Scholarships are for one year and are not renewable.
Scholarships will be awarded based on grade point average, college entrance test scores, work and volunteer experience, participation in school and community activities, a brief biographical statement with emphasis on the student's citizenship, leadership and character and that includes the student's career goals and how the scholarship would help them achieve those goals, and a short essay demonstrating their knowledge of electric/natural gas cooperatives and the value of the co-op to its members and community. Applicants also will need to submit two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher or other school personnel and one from a community member who is familiar with the student.

Spouses and partners with career flexibility do often come to New Haven for longer stretches, and it is sometimes possible for them to be included in a small number of World Fellows activities. More complicated is the important decision regarding whether or not to bring children. Placing school-age children into schools in New Haven is a complex and competitive process.
Program staff can provide information and some assistance in making school arrangements; however, there is no guarantee that schools in the Yale University area will have the necessary openings. Placing younger children into daycare centers can also present challenges. Fellows wishing to bring young children to New Haven must have full-time care arrangements for them. Fellows are occupied for many hours each day, including many evenings. In all cases, the Fellow must consider the intensive nature and significant demands of the Program, as well as the impact that long days and evenings will have on a partner and/or children.

CDC-Hubert Global Health Fellowship Scholarship in USA

Fellowship Description: The fellowship provides third- and fourth-year medical and veterinary students with valuable public health experience in an international setting. Fellows are placed in 6- to 12-week long field assignments throughout the year. Fellows are mentored by experienced CDC staff and learn through hands-on experience working on a public health project in a developing country.
The CDC-Hubert Global Health Fellowship is endowed by the O.C. Hubert Charitable Trust.
Hubert fellows spend 6 to 12 weeks in a developing country working on a priority health problem with CDC staff. Fellows participate as a member of a CDC team investigating a global public health problem and conducting analyses of public health data.
Interested medical and veterinary students apply during their 2nd or 3rd year. The fellowship begins the following summer.
Hubert fellows receive a stipend to help pay for travel and living expenses during the fellowship.
Most schools award course credit.
Fellows are assigned to one public health project in a developing country. Each assignment specifies the dates and required skills and languages.

- Up to $30,000 in support for graduate studies toward a public service-related degree. The Foundation has supported Truman Scholars in many fields of study, including agriculture, biology, engineering, environmental management, physical and social sciences, and technology policy, as well as traditional fields such as economics, education, government, history, international relations, law, political science, public administration, nonprofit management, public health, and public policy;
- Truman Scholars Leadership Week. This event, held at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, introduces new Scholars to the services provided by the Foundation and the many pathways to public service. Scholars participate in seminars and workshops with distinguished Truman alumni and other public service leaders, a policy analysis project, a graduate school and career fair with representatives from the schools and programs most attended by Truman Scholars, and community service events in the Kansas City area. This event is mandatory for all students selected as Truman Scholars;
- Summer Institute. Immediately after college graduation, Scholars have the opportunity to participate in a ten-week long Summer Institute in Washington, DC. The Foundation arranges internships with government agencies and nonprofit organizations, seminars and workshops, meetings with Washington policymakers and Truman alumni, and opportunities for community building among Scholars;
- Truman Fellows Program. After Summer Institute, Scholars may elect to stay on in Washington, DC for a full year in the Truman Fellows Program. Scholars are placed in public service jobs – most with the federal government – while participating in a graduate level public policy course, mentoring opportunities, and a community service program.
Eligibility:
Each nominee for the Truman Scholarship must be:
- a full-time junior-level student at a four-year institution pursuing a bachelor’s degree during the 2011-2011 academic year. ‘Junior’ here means a student who plans to continue full-time undergraduate study and who expects to receive a baccalaureate degree between December 2011 and August 2012, or a student in his or her third year of collegiate study who expects to graduate during the 2011-2011 academic year, or a senior-level student who is a resident of Puerto Rico or the Islands as defined below;
- nominated by the Truman Scholarship Faculty Representative at his or her institution;
- in the upper quarter of his or her class; and
- a United States citizen or a United States national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Resident aliens (green card holders) are not eligible.
