Applications are now open for students from Africa for the following Master's programs, which are fully taught in English and offered at UCSC's Campus in Milan, Italy:

All applicants will automatically be considered for a full or partial scholarship.

A full scholarship consists of a tuition fee waiver and free accommodation at UCSC student apartments.

Students will be responsible for their own international travel to/from Italy as well as for their other living expenses (see website for costs of living in Milan).

12 Full and 60 partial scholarships are available for applicants from Africa.

Admission requirements include completion of at least a Bachelor Degree (2nd Class Honours or higher, or equivalent) from a recognized university and IELTS 6.0 or equivalent if English is not the official language in your country.

For the MBA at least three years of work experience is required.

Georg Forster Research Fellowships for highly qualified researchers from developing and emerging countries

With the Georg Forster Research Fellowships, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation provides support for excellent postdoctoral and experienced researchers from developing and emerging countries (excluding China and India) to carry out research projects with an academic host in Germany.

Projects of relevance to development are eligible for sponsorship.

Apart from this, there are no quotas for specific subjects or countries of origin.

Applicants are free to choose their research projects as well as their collaborative partners in Germany. Any academic actively working at a German research institution can become a host.

Postdoctoral researchers may apply for a period of 6 to 24 months, experienced researchers for a period of 6 to 18 months (which can be divided into three stays).

Fellowships are awarded on the basis of the applicant's academic record, the quality of the project proposal and its relevance to development.

Hilde Back Education Fund (HBEF) 2011 Form One Scholarships

Available for candidates from Githunguri, Homa Bay, Kibwezi and Narok Districts

The Hilde Back Education Fund (HBEF) is an Organization that is committed to the promotion of Education as a Fundamental Human Right.

The Fund sponsors bright but poor students to secondary school.

HBEF hereby invites applications from suitably qualified and eligible Form One students for the year 2011 scholarships. One hundred (100) Scholarships i.e. 25 per district tenable in any duly registered Public Secondary School in Kenya, will be awarded.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for consideration, the applicant student must:
• Be a Kenyan citizen.
• Have sat K.C.P.E. in the year 2010 in a public primary school in Githunguri, Homa Bay, Kibwezi and Narok Districts and obtained at least 380 marks.
• Be from a poor family.
Sponsorship Duration
• The sponsorship will last for a period of four years effective 2011.
Beneficiaries will be expected to maintain good academic performance.

Application Procedure

Interested students should:
• Fill and submit the HBEF Scholarship application form available in the District Education offices in the respective districts.
• A certified copy of KCPE result slip.
• Relevant recommendation letters as outlined in the application form.
• Copy of birth certificate.
• A copy of Form one-admission letter/joining instructions where available.
• Evidence of being an orphan where applicable.

Application letters and supporting documents should be submitted to respective District Education Offices by Thursday 26th January, 2011.

Applications from students who do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be considered.

Similarly, late or incomplete applications will be disqualified. After the selection exercise, HBEF will contact the applicants for final award.

Canvassing or giving of false in formation by or on behalf of the applicant will lead to disqualification of the application concerned.

Successful applicants and their host schools will be notified on or before 15th February 2011.

Funding

Disbursement of funds for the successful applicants will be effected on or before 28th February 2011.

Scholarship Description: Applications for PhD studentships in public health research within the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR), a UKCRC funded Centre of Excellence in Public Health Research. The Centre is a collaboration between Medical Research Council Units in Cambridge and the Universities of Cambridge and East Anglia and is hosted by the Institute of Public Health in Cambridge.

We particularly seek candidates interested in the social and environmental determinants of physical activity and dietary behaviour and in population-based, interdisciplinary intervention research in this field. Students will be registered at the University of Cambridge or the University of East Anglia depending on their interests. The studentships within this multidisciplinary collaboration provide diverse training opportunities for all aspects of research and encourage the development of transferable academic and generic skills.

A number of three-year (‘+3′) studentships are available to commence in October 2011. These are for students who already have a Masters degree in epidemiology, public health or another relevant health or social science. It is possible that four-year (’1+3′) studentship(s) may also be available. If so, this would be for those without an appropriate Masters degree who will undertake the MPhil in Epidemiology or Public Health in Cambridge or the MRes in Environmental Social Science in Norwich during the first year of their studentship.

The minimum academic requirement for entry is a first or upper second class degree or equivalent. The studentships include college and university fees and a stipend. Full funding is available to UK nationals and UK residents. Partial funding is available to applicants from the European Economic Area (EEA).

ACS Cancer Survivor College Scholarship 2011

Job Description: The American Cancer Society Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program gives young cancer survivors the opportunity to pursue their post-secondary education from an accredited university, community college, or vocational technical school.

Eligibility:
- Must be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21. Applicants must be age 25 or younger at the time of application.
- Scheduled to graduate from high school and/or continuing college in the upcoming school year.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington or Wyoming.
- Accepted without condition to an accredited university, college, community college or vocational technical school.
- Must have a 2.5 GPA or above.
- Must become a full time student at an accredited university, college, community college or vocational technical school in the upcoming academic year.

Only those applicants who meet all of these eligibility requirements will be considered for scholarship awards.
The American Cancer Society Cancer Survivor College Scholarship program provides an award of $2,500. Recipients can apply multiple years for a possible lifetime award of up to $10,000 per student. After the initial award, scholarship renewal in subsequent years is based on successfully meeting program eligibility requirements, continuous academic achievement, and level of commitment as an American Cancer Society volunteer.

Due to limited resources, the American Cancer Society may not be able to award scholarships to all cancer survivors that apply.

NanoTOES Project: PhD and Postdoc Positions in Nanomaterials Impact on Health and Environment NanoTOES – an Initial Training Network under the PEOPLE Programme of the 7th Framework

Programme – is offering a total of 11 PhD positions and 2 postdoctoral positions.The members of the NanoTOES consortium are 12 partner organizations, including universities, non-university research institutions and industry, which will perform a joint study on the impact of Nanomaterials on Health and Environment. The scientific objectives of NanoTOES are to a)Identify mechanisms by which nanomaterials induce cellular stress and immune activation; b)Correlate size, shape, composition, coating of nanomaterials with defined cellular responses; c)Distinguish cell-specific from general cellular responses for cells from selected tissues; d) Identify the relevance of bystander substances and contaminants for nanotoxicity; e) Analyse the influence of biological compounds and entities on engineered nanomaterials; f) Develop and modify laboratory methods to allow their application in the work-place and in the environment.

Positions are expected to be filled with a starting date of 1st May 2011. Early stage researchers should have at the time of recruitment less than 4 years of experience and not hold a doctoral degree. These positions will offer full-time employment for 36 months and are to be combined with enrolment into an university programme with can lead to a PhD. Experienced researchers should have at the time of recruitment less than 5 years of experience, should hold a doctoral degree, and will be full-time employed for 24 months. Both types of positions offer cutting-edge research in leading laboratories dedicated to investigating the safety and impact of nanomaterials for health and environment. Salaries and terms of employment will be in accordance with the rules of the European Commission (http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/careers_en.htm). According to these rules, applicants must be nationals of a country other than that of the host organization where they will carry out the project. At the time of selection, the researcher may not have resided or carried out his/her main activity in the country of the host for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her appointment. Short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.

KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. KTH has 13344 fulltime students, with 6955 at the Bachelor (first) level, 5545 at the Master (second) level, 1314 students at the doctoral studies (third) level, and 3900 employees.

The School of Electrical Engineering (EE), with twelve departments and three competence centers, holds an internationally prominent position in basic and applied research, and it offers high quality education in five main areas: Electrical Power Engineering, Fusion and Space Plasma Physics, Telecommunications and Networks, Information and Control Systems. The School of EE offers a dynamic, creative, international environment to its approx. 300 employees (34 professors, 40 senior researchers and lecturers, and 160 doctoral students), and it is located on the main KTH campus in central Stockholm, a diverse and multicultural city.

Within EE, the security of networked systems is recognized as an issue of strategic importance, with new related activities recently initiated, in particular the Security group within the Department of Communication Networks (LCN). Our work combines theoretical approaches and experimental work, with results published over the past eight years that have attracted the attention of the research community. We have investigated problems ranging from secure and fault-tolerant communication and secure positioning to designing new security architectures and to enhancing location privacy. Our mission is to create trustworthy networked systems.

Description
We invite applications for PhD research assistantships. We are looking for highly motivated individuals interested in pursuing research and graduate studies on the security of networked systems.
The positions will be with the Security group at LCN, and the successful applicants shall benefit from a network of collaborations in KTH and beyond. The Security group is internationally oriented and offers a stimulating and enjoyable working environment that favors diversity. The emphasis of the envisioned work shall be on design and analysis of secure and privacyenhancing protocols. Candidates with strong experimental/systems or theoretical profiles are encouraged to apply.

A PhD assistantship at KTH can extend to up to five (5) years, with 80% of the time devoted to research and 20% to teaching duties. The salary is set according to the standard agreements for PhD student employment at KTH. The starting dates are planned for the spring term of 2011. Qualifications
Applicants must hold or be about to receive an MSc degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering or a related area. Excellent academic credentials, written and spoken English proficiency, communication and team-work skills, and well-documented computing and communications background are expected.

Expertise in several of the following areas is required: computer security, mobile computing, networking, Internet security, wireless communications, distributed algorithms, programming languages, performance analysis, operating systems, simulation techniques and tools, software engineering, system and network programming. Demonstrated experience on security and privacy engineering will be an asset.

Associate Research Fellow at College of Engineering , Mathematics and Physical Sciences

Overview
The College wishes to recruit an Associate Research Fellow to work on improving the understanding of interactions between hydrology, physical processes and land surface and vegetation feedbacks with a view to constraining predictions of future changes. The post is part of the HYDRA project funded under the NERC Changing Water Cycle programme and is available immediately for a fixed term period of three years.

HYDRA is a collaboration between Exeter Climate Systems at the University of Exeter, climateprediction.net at the University of Oxford, the UK Met Office Hadley Centre and CEH Wallingford. The successful applicant will work closely with Professor Peter Cox, Dr Hugo Lambert and Dr Ben Booth and will be 50% based at the UK Met Office.

Erasmus Mundus EURASIA2 Scholarship

Overview
The main objective of the project EURASIA 2 is to contribute to the promotion of the European system of higher education world-wide (Bologna Declaration) and to strengthen the existing network of co-operation among universities in Asia and Europe by expanding their experience in student and staff exchanges to the associate institutions, and thus disseminate good practice with regard to organisation of mobility and Bologna implementation (ECTS, DS) in all participating countries.

The specific objectives are the improvement of education and research capabilities of EU and Asian countries in subjects relevant to sustainable environmental and natural resource management (i.e. applied life sciences in the broadest sense of the term) to meet present and future societal challenges by contributing to education for sustainable development, to promote cooperation and solidarity among scientists and scholars in the EU and Asian partner countries; in the area of human resources to contribute to the enhancement of academic and professional staff expertise; to produce and transmit scientific and scholarly knowledge and information on curricula development, on the use of ECTS and DS etc. in the participating countries.

Fellowship Description: The Rockefeller University Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program provides a unique opportunity for undergraduates to conduct laboratory research. SURF students work with leading scientists in a broad range of areas including biochemistry; structural biology and chemistry; molecular, cell and developmental biology; immunology; virology and microbiology; neuroscience; physics; and mathematical biology.

College sophomores and juniors are eligible to spend 10 weeks during the summer in a Rockefeller University laboratory. The program begins in early June and ends in mid-August. Placement in laboratories is centralized through the Dean’s Office. Students are matched with laboratories according to their stated research interests, and work on projects under the direct supervision of faculty, postdoctoral fellows and/or senior graduate students.

Each year, students are chosen from a wide variety of applicants with diverse scientific backgrounds and training. Annually, more than 500 students apply for admission into the SURF Program and approximately 15 are accepted.

In order to fully experience the world of scientific research, SURF students are required to present and discuss scientific publications at weekly Journal Club meetings. This exposure allows participants to familiarize themselves with speaking to a scientific audience. SURF students also attend a special lecture series where Rockefeller faculty discuss their research and the evolution of their scientific interests. At the end of the program, SURF students will present their research results to fellow students and mentors at a poster session.

University of Florida Scholarships for USF International Students
